The wise persons always foreshadow the hardships for executing a policy. They become passive when they forecaste that their efforts are at stake. We should strike when the iron is hot. Some persons take the steps haphazardly with the result that they lose the opportunity and thus they are treated as fools. Angels are wise people are very particular about their actions. It has been the aim of all philosophers to understand the world. After understanding, they move very gradually and not like fools who plung into the situation without contemplation.

It was a rare occasion for ten students of this school to participate in the National Exhibition on Environment Protection held at IIT, Powai, Mumbai. About two hundred students from various parts of India took part in it. Many voluntary organizations and distinguished environmentalists also participated in it. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra inaugurated the exhibition. The leading themes of the exhibition were the protection of our forest wealth keeping our rivers and lakes pollution free; the hazards of air and sound pollution. The biggest draw of the exhibition was the section on the Himalayas. The exhibition evoked a spontaneous response among the local people especially, the students.

During the proceedings, Gandhi recounted, "a peasant came up to me looking like any other peasant in India, poor and emaciated, and said, 'I am Rajkumar Shukla. I am from Champaran and I want you to come to my district'!" Gandhi had never heard of the place. It was in the foothills of the towering Himalayas, near the kingdom of Nepal.

(i) Why should child labour be eliminated and how?

बाल श्रम को क्यों और कैसे समाप्त किया जाना चाहिए?

  • Answer: Child labour is an inhuman practice. A child needs love and care. Many children work in major industries like Bangle Industry in Firozabad, Carpet industry in Mirzapur and fire-work factories in Sivakasi. It is banned by the law, but strict action should be taken against such people. Only exemplary punishments can put an end to this shameful practice

  • उत्तर का हिंदी अनुवाद: बाल श्रम एक अमानवीय प्रथा है। बच्चे को प्यार और देखभाल की ज़रूरत होती है। फ़िरोज़ाबाद में चूड़ी उद्योग और शिवकाशी में पटाखों के कारखानों जैसे बड़े उद्योगों में कई बच्चे काम करते हैं। हालाँकि यह कानून द्वारा प्रतिबंधित है, फिर भी ऐसे लोगों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की जानी चाहिए। केवल अनुकरणीय दंड ही इस शर्मनाक प्रथा को समाप्त कर सकता है

(ii) What made the peddler finally change his ways?

  • Answer: The peddler was treated very politely and with a friendly manner by Edla. She entertained him even after knowing his true identity. She gifted him a suit as a Christmas gift and offered him to stay. When the peddler received honour and respect without any selfishness, goodness aroused in him and finally he changed his ways. 16

  • Answer: Eco states that the life of every person has empty space, or period with no important jobs. He says that he did most of his writing works during these free intervals. The fact is that he was writing on the same lines and same interest: peace, non-violence, etc.

  • Answer: The colour of 'Sour Cream' is off white. The poet has used this expression to contrast the classroom walls with the world of slum children. These unpleasant walls symbolise the pathetic life of these Children. 18
